How We Can Help

Social Housing-Balmoral Hotel

In October 2008, CMHA Mid Island purchased the Balmoral Hotel in Nanaimo to preserve the site as low barrier, social housing in the City. A former bar/lounge on the site has been renovated to house HOST- the homeless outreach and support team, which includes staff from VIHA, the Ministry of Housing and Social Development and CMHA Outreach workers. The 20 units of the Balmoral have been renovated without displacing the tenants currently residing there. People who work with the homeless outreach program will have preferred access to suites as they become available. CMHA`s administrative services are located off the Nicol St. Entrance, at the rear of the building.

Wesley Street Project

CMHA, in partnership with BC Housing, is in the process of building a 4 story residential unit that will provide housing for 36 people in the community. Wesley Street is a low barrier housing project similiar to the Balmoral. The building is located at 437 Wesley St. in Nanaimo. We are excited as we watch this project take shape. The building site is ready for possession at any time and our new Housing Director is working hard to prepare the building for tenancy! We have several selected tenants ready for moving in and this is very exciting. Please watch our website for news of the upcoming Grand Opening of the Wesley St. Building very soon. We are in the process of hiring the staff and preparing the building for occupancy. This is an exciting time for CMHA and for the community who have worked so hard to make this happen.
